Recycling

Three easy steps to recycling in Dobbs:

1. You'll need 2 bins - 1 for paper and cardboard, and 1 for commingled recyclables (plastic/glass/metal).
But sorry, NO PLASTIC BAGS! (Plastic bags can be returned to participating grocery stores like Stop and Shop to be recycled.)
Recyclables should be loose in the bins - not bagged!
Bins can be purchased at Village Hall or at Reader's Hardware store downtown.

2. Make sure to rinse your commingled (plastic/glass/metal) recyclables.

3. Put your paper and cardboard recycling bins out after 8pm Tuesday night for Wednesday morning collection. Put your commingled (plastic/glass/metal) recycling bins out after 8pm Wednesday night for Thursday morning collection.

CLOTHING/ TEXTILES

Don’t throw away your textiles!  Even if they are torn, stained or otherwise unwearable, they can be recycled! They can be made into pillow and car seat stuffing, housing insulation and wiping rags. If we throw them in the trash, we have to pay to dispose of them which wastes Village funds.  If they are in good shape, you can take them to one of the non-profits that sell them for a good cause. If they are in bad shape, you can take them to one of the donation bins listed below. Also see the list below of manufacturers who take your used clothes and shoes, and some give you coupons in return.

ELECTRONICS

Did you know that New York State has a law requiring that manufacturers provide free and convenient recycling of electronic waste to consumers?

Here is a list of manufacturers that maintain recycling programs for the electronics they sell:

https://dec.ny.gov/chemical/82084.html

The easiest way to recycle electronics:

Household Materials Recovery Facility (H-MRF) on 15 Woods Road on the Grasslands Campus (near Westchester Medical Center). E-Waste and hazardous waste can be left at this county-operated facility. Make an appointment online http://environment.westchestergov.com/facilities/h-mrf/reservation-system or by telephone to the Recycling Hotline: (914) 813-5425. Everything is recycled from this facility.  Nothing is dumped in the trash.
