Dobbs Ferry Trash Statistics

Did you know?

  • Dobbs Ferry pays Westchester County about $33 per ton to process our trash, but we pay nothing for what we recycle.

  • Westchester County made over $7.0 million in the sale of recyclables in 2022 – including paper, glass, cans, AND plastic!

  • In Westchester County, 94% of everything we send off to be recycled is sold to recyclables brokers. That includes PLASTICS!

  • Westchester’s trash is processed in an incinerator called The Wheelabrator (now WIN Waste) up in Peekskill. The average age of the 48 trash incinerators that have closed since 2000 was just 24.  Rarely do incinerators make it past the age of 40. Ours is 38 years old – making it one of the oldest in the Country. It is the largest source of air pollution in the county.

  • Westchester County issues an Annual County Municipal Report Card where it itemizes our waste – including Curbside Commingled, Organics (yard waste), bulk metal, e-waste, and more.
